Functional Testing

Functional TESTING TO address the root cause of your health CONCERNS.

Sometimes your symptoms only tell us one part of the story.

Functional testing can give us a deeper look at what may be happening beneath the surface. From your gut microbiome and digestive function to hormones, nutrient status and other areas of your health.

Rather than testing for the sake of testing, I use functional testing when it’s actually going to give us useful information and help guide your treatment.

Functional Testing Available

Cortisol Profile $106 + $27 P&H

The Adrenocortex hormone profile is a non-invasive saliva test that serves as a reliable marker of stress response and a critical tool for revealing adrenal imbalances. Lifestyle, physical and psychological stresses put constant demands on the adrenal glands. If they become depleted adrenal fatigue or insufficiency may be experienced. This test requires 4 x 5ml saliva throughout the day.

Cortisol Awakening Response $143 + $27 P&H

Are you feeling burnt out, exhausted, irritable and having problems sleeping? It’s not uncommon for these symptoms to worsen premenstrually especially if you also have a reproductive hormone imbalance. If this sounds like you, you may benefit from having your cortisol awakening response tested to determine your stress response.

The cortisol awakening response is a reliable marker to assess your stress response and the presence of any adrenal imbalances that may need to be addressed. This test requires 6 x 5ml saliva throughout the day.

Food Intolerance Testing $291 + $27 P&H

IgG food intolerance testing can be beneficial for those with digestive issues by identifying specific foods that trigger adverse reactions.

These reactions can cause inflammation and discomfort in the digestive system, leading to symptoms like bloating, gas, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain. By pinpointing these trigger foods, individuals can eliminate or reduce them from their diet, potentially improving digestive health and alleviating symptoms.

When doing an IgG test, it is recommended to eat a large variety of foods in the two weeks prior to testing. Including as many of the foods that are being tested (96 total foods). Be aware that if foods are not included in the diet during this time, false negative results may be obtained as recent exposure to these foods may be required for antibodies to be present in the blood.

This targeted approach helps in creating a more effective and personalised dietary plan, all without the guesswork.

Dutch Hormone Testing $430

Dutch hormone testing offers a comprehensive analysis of sex and adrenal hormones, providing accurate measurements of both free and metabolised hormones.

This detailed insight into hormone patterns, melatonin and cortisol levels helps identify specific imbalances, such as oestrogen dominance, low progesterone, androgen deficiency or excess and more. These have been linked to symptoms such as mood swings, fatigue, hair loss and irregular periods.

By guiding personalised treatment plans, Dutch hormone testing is a valuable tool for effectively addressing hormonal imbalances and alleviating related symptoms.

Comprehensive Thyroid Hormone Testing $125-160

Have you been experiencing signs of thyroid dysfunction such as weight gain, cold hands and feet, constipation, or hair loss but your blood test keeps coming back normal? This is often because doctors will only test TSH and not test all thyroid hormones, so we’re unable to see the full picture.

It’s not uncommon for T3 (active thyroid hormone) to be low, or thyroid antibodies to be elevated long before TSH goes outside of the normal range.

That’s where comprehensive testing can be really beneficial in catching subclinical hypothyroidsm early, before it becomes a bigger problem.

A full thyroid panel includes TSH, T4, T3, reverse T3 and thyroid antibodies. This is referred to a local Australian lab.

Comprehensive Microbiome Testing $444 – $549

Microbiome testing can be a game changer when it comes to treating your gut concerns by finding the root cause to your symptoms. It can give you a greater understanding of the overall health and function of your gut, and why it feels the way it does e.g. bloating driven by an overgrowth of yeast or bacteria.

We recommend Microba at Embodii as it is the gold standard for microbiome testing in Australia.

Organic Acids Test $299

Organic Acids Testing looks at metabolic by-products in your urine to provide clues about how your body is functioning, including energy production, nutrient metabolism and certain aspects of gut health.

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) Breath Testing $196 + P&H

If you’ve been experiencing upper digestive system complaints such as severe bloating, reflux, belching, abdominal pain combined with irregular bowel motions (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) you may have Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO).

SIBO occurs when the bacteria found in your large intestine, migrate up to your small intestine (where they shouldn’t be) or move from the oral cavity, migrating down. They then feed on the food in the small intestine, leading to excess production of gas primarily methane and/or hydrogen.

The SIBO breath test is a non invasive test to detect the levels of bacteria in the small intestine that can contribute to digestive ailments

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis $228

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a quantitative test that measures the mineral composition of hair, (precise to parts per million). It is a safe and non-invasive test that reflects the level of nutrients and toxic elements in body tissue.
